My name is Maria Rolon, I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and I am committed to helping each individual learn how to cope with the stress of life, I know that seeking help can be overwhelming, and I also know that building a collaborative therapeutic alliance facilitates the path to healing and growth. As a bilingual Latina from Puerto Rico and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Florida, I bring an eclectic perspective to my practice. With 16 years of experience working across various settings and with various populations, my focus lies in providing culturally sensitive care that addresses trauma-informed issues.

My therapeutic approach is integrative, drawing upon evidence-based modalities and emphasizing psychoeducation to empower your healing journey. Additionally, I incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness techniques, and self-care practices as key ways of supporting you as you navigate life’s obstacles.

Recognizing the significance of cultural diversity, I approach therapy with deep regard for your unique background and experiences. Anxiety is the negative expectation of the future. It can often manifests itself through persistent worry, racing thoughts, physical tension, or a general feeling of discomfort that negatively impacts various aspects of your life. At first, anxiety may seem like weakness; but, it’s actually a normal response to perceived threats or stressors that we all go through. Together we can explore its underlying causes and triggers while creating effective coping strategies and designing a personalized treatment plan.

Through our work together, we will promote self-compassion, practice relaxation techniques and challenge negative thought patterns. I offer a safe and supportive space as we embark on this journey towards alleviating your anxiety and restoring calm to your life.

Behavioral Therapy is an efficient method for understanding and changing behaviors that may be creating distress or impeding personal development. I want my clients to know that their behaviors do not define who they are as people. My focus is to identify specific behaviors or patterns which may be contributing to your difficulties. Working collaboratively, we explore any underlying triggers while creating practical strategies to facilitate positive change.

By working together on setting goals, utilizing behavioral techniques, and designing tailored interventions to you specifically, we will enable you to overcome obstacles, form healthier habits, and enhance overall well-being. I offer guidance, encouragement, and a safe space where you can explore, grow, and achieve lasting behavioral transformation.

CBT is an evidenced-based modality that has been extensively researched to treat depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, trauma and life transitions. As a therapist using CBT I engage in collaborative assessment, psychoeducation, identification and restructuring of automatic thoughts as well as behavioral experiments, skill-building exercises and homework assignments in order to empower clients with challenging negative thoughts, cultivating more adaptive behaviors and developing long-lasting coping mechanisms to maintain progress and wellbeing.

Depression can be an isolating and debilitating experience that affects every aspect of life. I want you to know there is hope and support available if this situation arises for you. Depression goes far beyond feeling sad; it can include feelings of emptiness, loss of interest in activities, changes to appetite and sleep patterns, as well as low energy or motivation levels. Depression should not be seen as an internal weakness or character flaw; rather a way your body is asking your to look deeper.

Therapy provides a safe and supportive space in which we can explore the root causes of your depression, identify negative thought patterns and develop effective coping strategies. Cognitive-behavioral therapy and mindfulness techniques are among the evidence-based techniques I employ in helping restore your sense of joy, purpose, and well-being. Sexual trauma is an emotionally and psychologically devastating experience that can have lasting effects, but as your counselor I want you to know that there is hope for healing and support available. Sexual trauma refers to any unwanted or non-consensual sexual experience that causes unpleasant emotions and symptoms such as anxiety, depression, shame and difficulty maintaining healthy relationships. Therapy provides a safe and confidential space where you can explore and process your experiences at your own pace.

Together, we work toward understanding the impact of trauma, treating any emotional and physical symptoms associated with it, and developing effective coping strategies to restore your sense of safety, self-worth, and empowerment. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a complex and disabling condition that may result from exposure to or participation in traumatic events, and as an experienced therapist I want you to know there is hope and healing available to you. PTSD can present itself through intrusive memories, flashbacks, nightmares, hypervigilance and emotional distress, which can significantly disrupt your daily life and wellbeing. It’s important to recognize these responses are natural responses to abnormal situations.

Therapy offers a safe and supportive space in which we explore how traumatic events have affected your thoughts, emotions and behaviors. Cognitive-behavioral therapy and exposure therapy are effective tools for helping clients process trauma, develop healthy coping mechanisms, and alleviate distressful symptoms. Perinatal Therapy is a caring and supportive therapeutic approach designed to meet the emotional and mental health needs of pregnant and postpartum mothers and fathers during the perinatal period, including pregnancy and postpartum periods. I assure you of my highest consideration for your and your baby’s wellbeing. Perinatal Therapy aims to explore all emotions, changes, and challenges related to this major transition in your life. Trauma-focused approaches provide a therapeutic framework that specifically targets the impact of trauma on an individual’s mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Recognizing that trauma experiences can have far-reaching and lasting impacts on an individual, these therapies aim to offer support and healing by directly addressing trauma symptoms directly.

An approach designed to treat trauma typically comprises several key components.

Safety and Stabilization: Creating an atmosphere of safety in trauma-focused therapy is paramount. I establish an environment in which you will feels free to express your thoughts, emotions, and experiences in an open manner. Coping skills, grounding techniques or relaxation exercises may also be taught as ways of helping manage overwhelming emotions or regulate nervous systems.

Psychoeducation: Teaching about trauma’s impacts and symptoms can be both empowering and validating, helping individuals understand that their reactions are normal responses to abnormal events and alleviating self-blame or shame. You will learn more about its physiological, psychological, behavioral impacts as well as its long-term ramifications.

Trauma Processing: Trauma-focused therapies frequently utilize specific techniques to assist individuals in processing and making sense of traumatic experiences. Such approaches help clients revisit and reprocess traumatic memories in ways that allow for healing and resilience building.

Traumatic experiences can cause many different symptoms, from intrusive thoughts and nightmares to hypervigilance, anxiety and depression; trauma-focused approaches provide clients with ways to recognize and manage these symptoms through various therapeutic techniques such as cognitive restructuring, emotion regulation strategies and mindfulness practices.

Building Resilience and Post-Traumatic Growth: While trauma can be extremely challenging, it also offers the chance for personal growth and resilience. A trauma-focused approach prioritizes developing strengths, positive coping mechanisms and feelings of empowerment in clients while providing assistance in finding meaning in life again, rebuilding self-worth, and creating healthier coping mechanisms.

Trauma-focused therapy should always be tailored to an individual’s specific needs and circumstances, taking into account cultural differences, potential triggers, and the individual’s readiness for trauma processing work.

Women’s Issues Therapy is a respectful and empowering therapeutic approach which addresses the unique experiences and obstacles unique to women. I understand the complexities and diversity of women’s lives as I provide compassionate therapeutic assistance.

Women’s Issues Therapy provides a safe, nonjudgmental space in which we explore topics like self-esteem, body image, relationships, motherhood, career goals and societal expectations. We explore the impact of cultural, social, and gender-related factors on your wellbeing, helping you face them with confidence and strength.

Through compassionate listening, support, and evidence-based techniques, I help my clients to foster self-empowerment, promote self-care, and increase feelings of fulfillment and authenticity in life.
